Sewing Swap Reveal!

Hi Everyone!
Welcome to the "Sewing swap" reveal!
The premise of this swap was to create a sewing themed jewelry piece or item to be used in the sewing room.
Also to include a ATC and 6"x6" fabric square to be sewn into something amazing later....

I painted a large canvas piece and used it for both my fabric square and ATC. I also included a little hand made Owl :)

Here you will see the boxes I 'custom' made for each participant. I had a blast painting them. While they seem great here, they look so much better in person and I hope everyone liked their Artsy boxes!

Enjoy!

Boho Bridal Wear with Decorative Trimmings

A handful of DCC designers and I received product from Decorative Trimmings to inspire you in making Wedding themed projects.

Decorative Trimmings is a manufacturer of high quality braids, cords, ribbons, fringe and other trim.
Decorative Trimmings are used in bridal wear, Renaissance costumes,Mardi-Gras, masks, hair adornments, hand bags, jewelry and more!

I love anything Boho/Gypsy, so naturally I fell in love with these sequined trims!
I've created 2 headpieces and a garter.

To make the headpieces, I used the following:
 Sedona Rose Hologram Sequin Trim

New Orleans Fushia Trim

  1. Measure- starting at your forehead, and continue all the way around. Add a extra ½".
  2. Secure ends with a small piece of clear tape to keep the sequins in place.
  3. Overlap ends, tape on tape and hand stitch with a thread and needle until secure.
  4. Cover stitched  area with a decorative butterfly, either with hot glue or a thread and needle.
  5. Wear headpiece across the forehead or as a headband.

So beautiful the way the sequins sparkle in sunlight.
Perfect for a Bridesmaids, girls night out, a princess party or everyday wear!

To make this garter, I used the following:

 Purple Spot Sequined Trim

2" Purple Chainette Fringe

  1. Measure above the knee and cut both trims to be 1" shorter the actual leg circumference.
  2. With a thread and needle, hand stitch the purple trim to the fringe as shown.
  3. Open up the fringe by trimming off the bottom. It is stitched for you so the fringe can hold its shape before creating with.
  4. Stitch  a 1" piece of like or dark colored elastic to both ends. This is your elastic give.
  5. Place on leg, above the knee and give a little "shake"!

Thanks for coming by, I hope you have enjoyed my Boho Bridal wear!
Please visit the rest of the designers here for more Wedding themed projects using Decorative Trimmings.

Quick and Easy Miniature Works of Art

The cool thing about making these miniature works of art is that they don't take up much time, space or money. These fit nicely inside a Deflecto 5x7 flexible pouch- available soon here. The pouches are great for mini books, photos, recipes and so much more!

To make these miniature works of art, you will need the following:
  1. Sturdy watercolor paper, cut to be smaller than 5x7. Make sure they can slide in and out of the pouches with ease.
  2. Pencil to draw.
  3. Fine paint brush, cup of water, and palette. I used a few paper plates.
  4. Acrylic paint. I used bright yellow, fluorescent pink, sea green, ice blue.
  5. 2-3 standard black permanent markers.
  6. Music to paint with. I listened to Techno while working on these. The tribal beat made me paint  in a hurry but it all came out fabulous!
Sketch your basic design with the pencil. Do the same design on all 4 papers. Use cups and glasses to create the perfect circles.

Begin painting with your lightest color. Alternate (as shown) as to where to paint on each card.

Next, add the pink. Be sloppy. Its OK.

Some sea green. Don't be neat, it takes away the spontaneity of the Art.

Then the blue. Don't be afraid to color outside the lines.

Now go back and add more color. Messy painting is good.

Now this is the FUN part!
When your pieces are dry, use the black pens to add detail. Sometimes you might hit a damp paint  spot. Simply wipe the pen nip off onto a napkin, cap it and use another pen.

See? Everything turned our great! No need to worry. Now we have miniature works of art to enjoy and share!
