No Sew Burlap Table Settings!

The Designer Craft Connection members were each challenged to create with Burlap!
Everyone participating was given a variety of Burlap Fabric to inspire you in more ways than one!

The inspiration for my projects came from the fact that our kitchen table needed some fresh table settings. Now that summer is here, we can afford some extra time to eat together as apposed to rushing around School homework and such.
I have 3 projects to get you excited about Burlap!

1. Utensil/napkin holder.
2. Rose place card/magnet.
3. Table runner.

 To make the Utensil/napkin holder, you will need the following:

1. 3"x4" Linen bags w/ Jute  Drawstrings.
2. Chevron Frog Tape® Shape Tape™
3. FolkArt® Bright Red Metallic Acrylic Craft Paint
4. FolkArt® Calypso Acrylic Craft Paint.
5. Foam brush 

 Line up your Linen bags in a row on a protected surface, tucking the jute cords under the bags.
Place the Shape Tape onto the bags.

With your foam brush, carefully apply the acrylic paint by dabbing, careful not to get any paint under the tape. Wash and dry the brush thoroughly in between colors.
When done, let paint dry for 10 minutes before removing tape.
Then insert a napkin and some utensils.
Now the holders have some personality!

 To make the Rose place card/ magnets, you will need the following:

1. Light Gray Burlap.
2. Thin magnets.
3. Double stick tape
4. Rubbers bands
5. E-6000®glue
6. Fiskars® Amplify® Shears.
7. Green cardstock
8. Ink pen.

 

 The best way to make a precise and perfect cut on any Burlap Fabric is to carefully tug at one of the threads and pull it all the way out of your fabric. I did this here at every 2"mark. Then I used the shears to make the perfect cut! This made it easier to ready 3 strips of the  Burlap Fabric  - 2" x 25" each.
I trimmed the magnets with the shears to be about 2 ½" width. The shears cut through the magnets like they were butter!
Then I covered the top of the magnet with  the double stick tape.
I twisted the end of the Burlap Fabric and placed in the center of the tape covered magnet.
To create the rose, I simply  kept twisting and pressing around the center  until the all the tape was covered.
I secured the last bit of the rose with glue and held it in place with the rubber bands until set.

 I cut the leaves from the cardstock and wrote our names with a ink pen. then I loosely placed them under each rose.
 This is a great idea for a dinner party because the guests can place the Burlap Fabric rose on their fridge and remember a evening of fun!

To make this Table Runner, you will need the following:

1. Barn Red Burlap Fabric.
2. Therm-o-web® PeelnStick Fabric Fuse
3. Fiskars® Amplify® Shears
4. Black marker
5. Straight edged yard stick.

The same way I prepped the strips of fabric for the roses, I did for the table runner.
By carefully pulling out a thread so I could have a clean cut line.
My finished piece measured 16 ½" x 60", so I made sure I had a 1½"  give all around.
I used a yardstick and the marker to draw a line approximately  1/2" from the edge of the Burlap Fabric.

 I placed the Fabric Fuse onto the Burlap Fabric and removed the paper backing.
Carefully I folded over the Burlap Fabric using the marker line as a crease.
This I repeated on the other side of the table runner and at both ends.
I completed the set with some matching place mats and a decorated flower vase!

Now we have a beautiful table setting for a light lunch or family dinner!
