Westcott and Wyland Charity event

Remember these?
I posted about them a while back.
I made both of them for a Westcott / Wyland Charity Event.

Both pieces were part of a silent auction.
The Mermaid crown sold for $145!
And the Mermaid Dreams -mirror sold for $45!

"Toot! Toot!" for me!
I'm very pleased at how popular my pieces were
and honored to be a part of such a wonderful cause!
Thanks to Marisa Pawelko for organizing everything!

An exciting day indeed!

We went to the fair today
where I was presented with a certificate award
for my Faerie Tiara ~
which placed first and Division winner!
In honor of the special occasion,
I wore my favorite purple shirt
and one of my other beaded creations!
It was all very exciting!

Fun at the Fair!

I got a letter in the mail yesterday from the OC Fair letting me know that I am to be presented a award on August 7th at the OC fair for my 1st place/ Division Winner Tiara! I'm so excited! Should I wear a another tiara creation when accepting my award?

That yellow ribbon is such a "happy" color...don't you think? :)

And here is my 1st crazy quilt as displayed...I'm proud to receive honorary mention!

Last week when I took Dyllan to the fair, it was just the two of us so I made it a day for him. I got him a $25 ride band that let him have unlimited rides until 8pm. He must have rode all that he could for 6 solid hours!
We met with my friend Teresa and her daughter Sydney who was in a kids dance troupe. We watched them dance and then the two went on this water ride....

They had to leave to pick up visiting family at the airport while Dyllan went on to have the day of his life!

We played a few games and he made out like a bandit on all the things he won!

As for things to eat, I did succumb to the tantalizing smells and gave in to some monster onion rings that we shared. But I did not order from the "Heart Attack Cafe"...check out their warning sign...

The deep fried butter from what I heard was a stick of butter covered in cream cheese then deep fried. The chocolate covered bacon actually sounds pretty tasty!

I'll pass on the frog legs but maybe next time I'll try the deep fried Klondike bar...
:)

Of course my favorite is always the deep fried artichokes...yum!

I Won 1st Place at the County Fair!

Yesterday I took Dyllan to the OC Fair to se how my fair entries did.
We met up with a friend to watch her little girl dance and then to get Dyllan a all you can ride wristband for up to 8pm. Dyllan and I got to the fair about 1:30pm and left at 9:30pm.
He rode rides and played games for 6 solid hours!
He won (all by himself) a large dinosaur, a fluffy white bear, a cute monkey and a light sword. I won 2 (cute) plush fish.
We ate before we came (wise move) and snacked on home brought fruit, snacks and free hand outs- like motts apple juice and apple sauce!
Near the end when we were getting ready to leave I did buy us some ginormous onion rings...delish!
Even though the day was all about Dyllan, we went to see how my entries did. My crazy quilt (above) placed Honorable mention! That's like 4th place! It's my 1st crazy quilt and I completed it in 3 days! It almost never was...as my Mother in Laws memorial got moved back a week and my time was spent getting the house ready for new appliances and my trip. Plus I could not use a machine...the premise was to completely hand sew it! It is 25"x33" and I was still sewing on the day it needed to be delivered.
I'm looking forward to adding some extra details to the quilt when I get it back before hanging up in my studio.

Faerie Tiara
I completely hand wire wrapped this tiara. Every little detail was all wire wrapped from the pearls to the itty bitty beads.

I'm REALLY excited with how this came out! And happy the judges loved it!

This piece won 1st place and Division winner!
Right next to the tiara at the fair is a big "fluffy" yellow ribbon!

I can't wait to go back in early August with Brian and Dyllan...this way I can leisurely walk around (on my own).... :)

Did I ever tell you that I love to make Glitter?

I do!
And I can make just about any color to suit my needs plus the needs of my buyers through my etsy shop which leads me to the above photo.
This adorable house was created and decorated with my glitter
by Sandy who has a Shabby~licious new blog...check it out here!
And please check out some of her Christmas snow houses which some of my glitter was used for here.

For now in my shop, I have silver, blue, pink and gold available to purchase. You can see them here.
I do have some new colors waiting to be listed in the next couple of weeks and hope you'll drop by again!

Honorable Mention

Is what I received at this years County Fair for "Blast Off"
I'm happy with how it turned out since I had to put it in a frame for their wall!

I'm sure the reason why this one did not place was because I did not add a title or journal card.
I just did not know what to "add", with out ruining the lay out! I'll add something later when the fair is over . I used Prima flowers and rhinestones. I hand stitched around the photo and added two dimensional wings. For the prima flowers I added stickles for a little glitz.

I think it's the most beautiful Lay out I've done in a while.

For my "Vintage Inspired Chunky Charm Bracelet"....It took me two day to make it. I collected the beads from my personal stash and antique flea markets. I was duplicating a vintage bracelet that my Great-Great Grandmother made.

I macrame braided the base of the chunky charm bracelet with gold elastic elastic cord.

I then randomly sewed with extra elastic cord these charms I so carefully made.

The lot mainly consisted of vintage jewelry that I took apart, cleaned then mixed and matched to make the charms.

Here is the original which was the source of my inspiration.

I was sure that judges would be impressed with the craftsman ship and uniqueness of my bracelet. I guess not. The positive part about this that I've created something that I'm proud of and look forward to making more to add to my shop!
The 1st place winner of this category made something that I was both surprised and happy to see...a wire wrapped/ beaded Tiara! Now that I know Tiara's are part of the jewelry category, I plan on making some for next years fair!

We met up with some friends at the fair last night. We ate, walked around, watched the kids ride rides and left tired. I'll take photo's next week when I go with just Dyllan. We want to see the animals, shows and ride on some rides together. What a fun day that will be!

Awards and Rambles

~ Last year at the OC Fair I walked away with 4 ribbons, 1st thru 4th. But them the theme was more to my liking and I was able to apply myself better! You can see those entries here.
This year the theme was odd. "Say Cheese!" They never really emphasized on the theme until a week before the fair opened! I just could not get myself into it this year. I entered 6 items and came away with 2 ribbons. I'm hoping to win the judges over with a hot artichoke dip I'm entering on the 20th for a "live" judging.

~ Here is a crown I made for the recycled division. It was not until after I made and entered it that I realized I should have used cheese wrappers! But instead I used chip and candy wrappers to make up the "Junk Food Queen" She got a Honorary Ribbon!

~ Since I'm so infatuated with my birds nest creations, I thought of playing up to the fair theme with a birds nest photo bracelet and placed 3rd! Not bad.

~ I Like my stamped and embossed ornament but felt it really needs more dimension. At least it sparked some idea's for Christmas ornaments!

~ I made a elaborate mini book for the Scrapbook section. I was inspired by "Sex and the City"
Please go here to see all the inside pages I made for this book!

~ This "Cow" was my attempt to combine the two fair themes in to one. Ghastly is it not?
When the fair is over, I'm going to re-do it and list it in my shop.

~ Lastly, simple and sweet. I love this bracelet! I even made the acrylic charms!
