Altered Thrift Store Photo Cube

Personalize a photo cube with Joy® Embroidered Monograms!

In preparation of my Father-in-law's 80th Birthday, I wanted to give him something a little more personable. So I went to my local thrift store and looked around for something to 'alter'.
When I saw the plain wooden photo cube, I new I had found just the right thing!
The letters below are his initials and they fit perfectly inside the cube!
Read on for the tutorial.

You will need:

  • Joy® iron-on Left, Right & Center Embroidered Monograms
  • A photo cube
  • Scrapbook paper
  • Glitters and other embellishments
  • Scissors
  • Quick drying adhesive and diamond glaze.

Instructions:

  1. Cut a circle from the scrapbook paper that will fit inside your cube.
  2. Adhere the monogram letters in place.
  3. Coat the inside of the cube with the diamond glaze and add your glitters and such.
  4. While the glaze is still tacky, drop in your circle with letters.
  5. Paint over the letters with the glaze.
  6. Measure and cut the same scrapbook paper and adhere to the edges and outside of the cube.
  7. Seal the paper with glaze.

You can find Joy® embroidered, iron-on letters, letter sheets and appliqués at your local craft stores.

Embossed Foil Address Book

I wanted something bright and colorful to hold all of our friends and family addresses, Birthdays and any other special occasions. This project was a great way to use up all my scraps of Rinea Foiled Paper.
I used a combination of Glossy Foiled Paper and Star Struck Foiled paper.
For this project, I only embossed the Glossy Foiled Paper.

Decorated Succulent Container

So most of you know by now that I love to work with foil right? And not just any foil, but Rinea foil! Now they have this fantastic new product called Ghost Ink. Its insane! It lets you stamp onto the foil and then when wiped off, removes the foil color where you stamped.
Cool right? Check it out below.

For this project, I used the following:

  • Empty container, clean and dry.

  • Paper trimmer
  • Heat gun
  • 70% Rubbing Alcohol
  • Baby wipes
  • Clear packing tape
  • Foam pad
  • *Optional -
  • Colored permanent markers, Glittered washi tape, Q-tips and rhinestones.

  •  Measure and cut your foiled paper to fit the width of your container, but still narrower than the tape.

Ink up your stamps with the Ghost Ink.
Use a foam pad under the foil when stamping to get better results.

Be careful not to wiggle the stamp or you will have smeared results. Lift up carefully. Use the heat gun to set the ink- 2 seconds on high...or...5-10 seconds on low.

Put some alcohol onto the baby wipe and wipe away the dried ghost ink.
Continue this process all along the strip.
For a little extra fun, dab a Q-tip into the Ghost Ink and add some dots to the border or detail to the butterfly's.

Use your permanent markers to add color in some of the stamped design.

Adhere the stamped foil to the container with the clear tape. The tape helps protect the foil from everyday use.
Add washi tape if desired and rhinestones.
lastly add your potting soil and a plant. Mist lightly and place in a sunny window.

    Make your own book strap

    Custom Book Strap

So you know those "free" belts that sometimes come with shorts or pants? They are not really your style, so you pull them off and use your own. But those belts can be functional in other ways, like this custom book strap I made for my art supplies. Keeps everything together for on-the-go creating!

    Supplies:
    - Joy Embroidered Iron-on Emojis- &  Joy Embroidered Iron-on Letters
    - Canvas belt
    - Watercolor paints and brush
    - Iron and pressing cloth

Wrap your books and/or art supplies with the belt and secure snugly.
Mark the placement of your letters and emojis, then carefully undo the belt.
Cover the letters with a pressing cloth and iron on to the belt according to the package directions.

Paint the letters as desired with watercolors. Heat-set the color by ironing again with the pressing cloth.

Here's a idea I did for my pencil case that sometimes doesn't stay shut - I hand-stitched a bit of wide elastic to fit the case and then ironed on an emoji patch.
    Cute and functional!
