Deflecto Blog Hop and Giveaway

Deflecto was kind enough to provide myself and other designers with a cube organizer and acrylic frame so we can show you that these supplies but can be used for so much more than office use.

I have been wanting to try a broken CD craft for a while. The black border of the frame was the perfect inspiration!

Materials used:
  1. One 5"x7" acrylic frame by Deflecto
  2. Assorted CD's
  3. Sharp heavy duty scissors.
  4. A soft washcloth.
  5. Protected surface and bowl.
  6. Aleena's fast grab tacky glue.
  7. Paper plate and q-tip.
1. Use the washcloth to firmly grasp the CD while cutting. This also eliminates  fingerprints and  any sharp edges. Cut the CD into mosaic shaped pieces.

2. The CD with start to separate while cutting. This is fine. Sort the pieces, careful not to touch the metallic shapes with your fingers, you don't want fingerprints.

CD pieces intact.                                            ... Top transparent layer                              ...Bottom metallic layer.
 3.  Place some glue onto the paper plate and use the q-tip to apply glue to the backside of the mosaic shapes. Arrange in place on the black border of the frame, one-by-one.  If you accidentally get glue where you were not intending to- use a wet napkin immediately to remove the adhesive before it dries.

4.  Fill in as much space with the larger pieces then carefully trim the shapes to fit the smaller spaces. Be precise when trimming at the individual metallic layer of the CD is extremely brittle and breaks off easily.

 5.   The end result is fantastic!
 6.  The way the light hits the CD fragments...never the same gleam of color! So magical!

Here I have decorated a 8 1/2"x2" Deflecto nameplate. I made my name graphic with a Free sign creator here.

I decorated the front drawers of the cube to reveal what is stored inside. Now I have my extra embellishments for ready to go decorating!
I hope you were inspired by what I made. If you'd like to make your own decorative frame and cube, Deflecto is offering an incredible giveaway!
All you have to do to win your own cube organizer and frame is comment on as many designer blogs as you can, "like" the Deflecto Facebook page then enter using the Rafflecopter widget that is on the DCC blog @ www.designercraftsconnection.blogspot.com

Good Luck, I hope you find lots of inspiration!

Lego Storage using Tilt Bins

Lego's are huge thing on our home. Not just for Dyllan but for me as well! They are fun to build, take apart, sort and build some more! But sometimes the fun is lost when you are sorting through the "big" bins looking for a mini figurine, accessory, plant life or other special piece.

So I resorted to Deflecto Tilt Bins!
They are a lifesaver! They can be mounted on the wall or stacked on a table as we did here.

The bins are interlocking, which is awesome, and tilt easily but are able to be removed as needed.
The bins also come with paper slips to categorize your bins, these slide into a slot at the front.
Deflecto Tilt Bins can be found at the following locations:
Staples
Office Depot
Walmart
Target
Sams Club
Amazon

You can see more Deflecto storage idea's on Face Book and on their blog.

So what will you store in your Deflecto Tilt Bins?

Like this mini figurine display? You can view the tutorial here. :)
Thanks for stopping by!

Back to School Craftts with Deflecto!

Ever since Dyllan was in diapers I have been stocking up on School themed scrapbook paper.
I've had this collection by WeRMemory Keepers for a few years and now its 'perfect' because Dyllan starts 6th grade in the Fall!
The Deflecto 4"x6" Craft Frame makes it easy to see a class schedule. It comes with a colored border letting me accent it with School themed paper.

The Deflecto 3"x5" Flexible pouches are fantastic for making door knob signs. Simply decorate both sides of the pouch, inside and out, then loop a rubber-band in the hole at the top and hang on a knob!

This Deflecto Pencil Cup with Photo frames is super easy to decorate.  I simply cut cardstock to fit inside the photo slots and added a tab at the top for easy removal. Perfect to add a photo or encouraging words. Embellish with stickers or washi tape.

This Pencil Cup is also ideal for those of us that go on weekend craft retreats. We can show off photos of our family in the windows and have a place to store craft pens and tools!

The pencil Cup also folds up perfectly for easy transport!

Supplies used:

3" x 5" Deflecto Flexible Pouch
4" x 6" Deflecto Craft Frame

Celebrating Grads with Deflecto!

One more month and Dyllan graduates from 5th grade! Where did the time go? Seems like yesterday he was just starting Kindergarten! I wanted to create something special for him to remember how far he has come.
I used this 7"x5" Curved Sign Holder by Deflecto. The sleek curved design holds the frame up easily. Little magnets inside the corners makes it easy to customize the inside.
I used a white Chalk Marker to personalize some black cardstock.
Then I added dimensional to the outside of the frame!
You can find Deflecto products at most office supply stores and on Amazon.

Quick and Easy Miniature Works of Art

The cool thing about making these miniature works of art is that they don't take up much time, space or money. These fit nicely inside a Deflecto 5x7 flexible pouch- available soon here. The pouches are great for mini books, photos, recipes and so much more!

To make these miniature works of art, you will need the following:
  1. Sturdy watercolor paper, cut to be smaller than 5x7. Make sure they can slide in and out of the pouches with ease.
  2. Pencil to draw.
  3. Fine paint brush, cup of water, and palette. I used a few paper plates.
  4. Acrylic paint. I used bright yellow, fluorescent pink, sea green, ice blue.
  5. 2-3 standard black permanent markers.
  6. Music to paint with. I listened to Techno while working on these. The tribal beat made me paint  in a hurry but it all came out fabulous!
Sketch your basic design with the pencil. Do the same design on all 4 papers. Use cups and glasses to create the perfect circles.

Begin painting with your lightest color. Alternate (as shown) as to where to paint on each card.

Next, add the pink. Be sloppy. Its OK.

Some sea green. Don't be neat, it takes away the spontaneity of the Art.

Then the blue. Don't be afraid to color outside the lines.

Now go back and add more color. Messy painting is good.

Now this is the FUN part!
When your pieces are dry, use the black pens to add detail. Sometimes you might hit a damp paint  spot. Simply wipe the pen nip off onto a napkin, cap it and use another pen.

See? Everything turned our great! No need to worry. Now we have miniature works of art to enjoy and share!
