Star Wars Pancakes!

One of my best friends sent these Star Wars pancake molds to Dyllan for Halloween. Aren't they the bomb? The pancake recipe called for real buttermilk and boy did these beauties melt in our mouths! Easy to do and fun to eat! Long live Star Wars! :)

Another Win

Recently Dyllan got to the top of his WINNING STICK.
Sometimes it takes less than a month, sometimes more than two.
All depending of his attitude and behavior. The prize is for him to go to the store and pick out a $10 toy and he chose this to add to his Star Wars Lego collection. :)
We treated him to the extra $10 to compensate his "scare with peanuts" a few days before this photo was taken.
Isn't he a doll?

Kids say the Funniest Things!

Dyllan Loves to color. Which is great as I love to color too!
His motto should be , "Have crayons, will color!"
This morning while I was having coffee, Dyllan showed me some recent work he had done in a clone wars coloring book. I looked at one page of a clone trooper and asked if that was a girl trooper, and he said, "no, it's a boy trooper". I then said well then why is he pink? And he said "that's red!", and I said, looks more like purple to me, and he said "then it's Violent Red"!

*(get it? violet red?)
:)

So...heard any funny kids quips? Please share!

We are heading out a month later this time so I'm not sure what we will find.
Dyllan and I leave in a bit, off to my Mom's and will be back on Thursday.
On Tuesday Mom, Dyllan and I plan on going for the day to "The Living desert" We have never been and I look forward to it!
Here's hoping for cooler weather and less earthquakes!

Happy Spring Break!

Crazy Love on Valentines Day

Dyllan was excited to help me make pancakes that morning, can't you tell?
Concentrating on stirring the batter...
Even got a shot of me!
So good!
Here he is with the bag he decorated at school filled with 31 colorful Valentines!

For Valentines Day, Brian and Dyllan gave me what I've been wanting since Christmas...
Crazy Love CD by Michael Buble'
Have you seen his video "Haven't met you Yet?"
Go here...and prepare your heart to be melted....

Better than Lemon Meringue Pie!

The day after Dyllan's head injury was my Birthday, so we went to
Hollywood for the Ripley's Odditorium.
This sound machine was great...one sounded like
a real horse was galloping right across the ceiling!
There was lots of odd things to see and I was very surprised and delighted to see this!
Some of the things were really gross, but the rest was mostly interesting.
A first for all of us to attend this place!
Afterwards we walked up and down the strip and decided to have lunch
at the Disney Soda Fountain.
The decor inside was neat inside

and while having lunch I enjoyed watching the soda jerks make the
different ice cream sundaes and fountain treats!

I wore one of my Tiara's I made!
If you have been watching American Idol...this is the actual Theater they are in!
And here is the Chinese Grauman Theater
There were so many people there!
Some were for the weird people and some were for the famous hand/foot prints
like this one of Doris Day.
and then there were of course the stars... :)

While we were walking along...a clown shoved a balloon sword in Dyllan's hand
and said, "You like that?" "Which of course Dyllan did.
And then the clown turns to me and asks for $1.
The nerve...
But I gave him $2 just because,
and the guy gave Dyllan and extra (free) sword.
When we went to sit down...the balloon holster and puppy hat
tumbled right into Dyllan's lap from out of nowhere.
So here he is sporting it all with his red hat (protecting his head injury from germs)
Alice in Wonderland is coming to the El Capitan in 3D
on March 5th...anyone want to go with me?
I've only been there once before for the opening of Aladdin.
It is Sooo much fun!
To promote the Wax Museum..they had Marilyn out for the public to see...
She looks so real!

I wore my Tiara all day and even when we got home from Hollywood,
I wore it when I went by myself to Barnes and Noble.
In the 3 hours I was there browsing magazines and books...no said anything.
Either they thought I was nutsy or maybe a Princess! lol!
When I got home from the book store,
Brian and Dyllan sang Happy Birthday to me
with Strawberries and whip cream!

Here are 2 things I treated myself to at the book store!

Dyllan made this Birthday Crown for me.
It was his idea. We made it on Thursday.
I did was the cutting of the crown and stars.
He colored with crayons, printed the words and added the stickles!
I will always cherish this crown...
So precious!
Even the stars are perfect!
The next Day I made my own cake. Why?
Cause I wanted it to taste good...and plus, once you've tasted homemade...
store bought or from a box just does not compare!
I made a triple lemon cake and it was well worth the effort!
It tasted (hands down) better than lemon Meringue Pie!
100%!
If anyone wants the recipe, e-mail me your mailing address and I'll send you a copy!
Why snail mail? Because It's becoming a lost art and I want to keep the tradition alive...plus everyone loves happy mail...don't you?
Can't you just taste the home made lemon curd filling? So tart and tasty!

I'll post the rest of the weekend next....
:)

Keeping me focused & happy... knowing everything will be OK

I love this photo cause Dyllan reminds me so much of "me" and my love for reading plus being able to "make" a comfy spot just about anywhere!
I like to look at this to keep reminding me that his melt downs won't last forever.
That he's not really angry at us, he's just limited on how he can use his words as he's only 5 1/2. And that boys will be boys and I can not keep him from hurting himself forever...although I'll try.

Last Friday was a school holiday and we decided to spend some Mommy and Dyllan time on Los Rios St. in San Juan Capistrano (where I grew up).
We walked around, taking photo's, some of each other, some of houses and trees.
He collected sticks and twigs, I collected wistful imaginings.
We ended up at new playground in the historic area and I let him romp around.
At one point he was doing these "boy" tricks of his, 1/2 cartwheels, turn around, rolls around...what ever caught his fancy when suddenly he hit his head on the under part of a wooden bench.
Let me tell you that there was ALOT of blood, dripping down his head onto his ear, his shirts, matting his hair.
I don't "do" blood.
Especially when it's on my child.
It just tore me up.
I cleaned him up the best I could, called my husband (more than once) who convinced me that it would be quicker to drive him to the walk in clinic by our home instead calling 911 which if they were to come (lights flashing, siren going) would send Dyllan over the edge
who was almost hysterical cause he had blood all over his hands
and he's afraid of doctors~(from a not so great food allergy test where they had to draw blood and he accidentally saw the needle taking blood out of him...
so yes, when he has a doctors appointment.
I don't tell him till we get there...and then I deal with it)

... long story short, I drive him to the clinic, engaging him in conversation the whole way,
trying to keep myself focused, get there, get him in,
they clean him up and here's where the fun begins.
I warn them that the last time we were in for the flu shot,
it took 2 nurses to hold him down while another gave the shot.
When he gets scared...he gets STRONG. And he's only 5!

So they bring in "the blanket" and begin to swaddle him like a baby
holding him steady so the doctor who was younger than the two female nurses
adds 4 staples to Dyllan's head.
I held Dyllan's legs down for two reasons.
One, because I knew they could be lethal
& two because I did not want to see the staples being put in as I would probably pass out.
I'm "that" sensitive to what happens to my baby. I guess it's a Mommy thing...or just me.

We finally get home (after renting a few movies)
(and dropping off a get well card to a friend of Dyllan's that's home from his own surgery)
We survived two nights of me waking him up every two hours to make sure he could walk and talk.
He wears a soft knitted hat when we go out in public
and I worry at every stumble or even planned fall.

The staples come out Thursday.
Yea! I'll finally be able to wash the neosporin out of his hair!
And I'll worry less and may even let him "be" so I can get back in the studio
with out watching him like a hawk.

He thinks that as soon as they come out, he can get back to doing his "tricks".
Yea, right.

So that's it. In a nut shell.
I just had to let you know why I'm not on "top" of things...posting about my Birthday (on the 13th)and all the fun things I did and received.
I will. Sometime on Tuesday.
Thanks for stopping by...and I hope I did not gross you out!
At least I did not post photo's...and Yes, I did take a picture...for the Scrapbook!
I'm going to wait a while before making a lay out of it as I'm still "un-nerved" by the visual memory. But I'll ask for the staples and add them to the page.
Because that's what we "Artsy" Mom's do...right?

Today is my birthday and I'm On Mod Podge Rocks!

February 13, 1973. And yes, that's me! This photo cracks me up... :)
Look at the pillow stuffing me in, my too big jammies and the simple beads to entertain me! Plus the wheels...I don't think I ever tipped but I do remember bumping into walls a lot!

Today we are going to Hollywood! I have not been since I was a kid, and I live in Orange County, which is not far! So today, we are visiting the Ripley's Odditorium, then to walk around town and take photo's of the people and things we see.
I'm looking forward to seeing Hollywood through the eyes of Dyllan....

And Today I'm featured on Modge Podge Rocks!!!
So cool...what a nice Birthday treat!

Here's hoping for Star filled "Magical" day!

btw...congrat's to Flor Larios for winning the Atc's...visit her! She has a beautiful blog!

Introducing Tuck!

Earlier this year we inherited a family pet from Brian's side. A Desert Tortoise, which Dyllan promptly named "Tuck" from Wonder Pets. I've been putting off showing him to you as it's taken time to get his enclosure just right.
The whole right side of our house is his "Turtle walk" which he does many times a day...
His "den" is a old plastic trash bin and he has plenty of space to sun himself.
He comes when I call him by his name or when I make a under the tongue clicking sound like you would for a horse. He will actually follow me around his enclosure!

It does not cost much to feed him. Daily he gets broccoli, endive, escarole, dandelion greens (bought or growing in his yard) add ins - fresh fruit like strawberries, grapes or melons, mustard greens and I always treat him to hibiscus and honeysuckle from the garden.I found a old plastic plant saucer, taped up a hole and placed it under a drip faucet so he can have fresh water for drinking or soaking as you can see here. I'm also thankful we kept Dyllan's old safety gate to enclose him in.

When it's not to hot, it's nice to draw up a chair and just watch him.
When winter comes and he's ready for hibernation, he'll go into a family members garage until spring again.
